April 18th is just around the corner...have you filed your tax return?
This year's tax deadline (that's April 18th this year) is fast approaching and therefore 2015 returns & extensions are due by 11:59 p.m. local time on Monday, April 18, 2016.
We strongly recommend that you submit returns and extensions at least one hour prior to the deadline (because technology is NEVER reliable).
Here are several other filing requirements that your tax adviser or preparer should be aware of:
Perfection Period for Extensions
Rejected extensions that were filed on time by April 18, 2016, must be re-transmitted electronically within 5 calendar days of the deadline (in other words, by 11:59 p.m. local time on April 23, 2016) to avoid penalties.
Perfection Period for Returns
- Tax Form 1065: Rejected 2015 returns that were e-filed on time by April 18, 2016 must be re-transmitted electronically within 10 calendar days of the deadline (in other words, by 11:59 p.m. local time on April 28, 2016) to avoid penalties
- Tax Forms 1040 & 1041: Rejected 2015 returns that were e-filed on time by April 18, 2016 must be re-transmitted electronically within 5 calendar days of the deadline (in other words, by 11:59 p.m. local time on April 23, 2016) to avoid penalties.
Although many states follow federal filing deadlines, state filing deadlines and perfection periods may vary by state. Make sure to verify the filing deadline your applicable state agency.
